A 36-year-old driver who ran a red light before a crash that killed a passenger in another vehicle in Ocean City in 2021 has been sentenced to three years in state prison.
Ruddy Narvaez, of Galloway, was speeding when he went through the red light, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday.
Narvaez’s westbound SUV struck the passenger side of a car turning left onto Bay Avenue from Ninth Street at about 6:20 p.m. on June 22, 2021.
John D. Andrews, 66, of Ocean City died of his injuries at an area hospital. A 48-year-old Somers Point man driving the other vehicle was hospitalized that with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Andrews was survived by his son, daughter, brother and many other relatives, according to an online obituary.
“This case underscores the serious consequences of reckless driving and our commitment to holding offenders accountable,” prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a statement. “We hope this sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior on our roadways.”
